PERTH: Following the recent Western Australian state elections in March 2025, representatives from the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) Perth Branch and National Office have conducted virtual meetings with newly elected Western Australian (WA) parliamentarians, reported the Armenian National Committee.
Throughout July and August, alongside Mr Zaven Boyadjian, Chairperson of ANC-AU Perth Branch and representatives from the Australian Hellenic Council, meetings have been held virtually with Mr Basil Zempilas MLA - Leader of the Opposition, Dr Brian Walker MLC - Legalise Cannabis Party, Maryka Groenewald MLC - Australian Christians; and Sophie McNeill MLC - The Western Australian Greens.
The meetings focused on introducing legislators to the activities of the Armenian-Australian community in Western Australia and enhancing cross-party understanding of key human rights, heritage, and cultural issues affecting the Armenian nation.
The meetings were also an opportunity to also discuss the human rights violations of Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and to advance recognition of the 1915 Armenian, Assyrian and Greek Genocides across Australia.

ANC-AU Executive Director, Michael Kolokossian, welcomed the open and productive discussions, noting: “It was encouraging to see a strong commitment across party lines in Western Australia to engage with and understand the issues that matter most to our communities.”
ANC-AU Perth Branch Lead Representative, Zaven Boyadjian said: “We look forward to continuing this dialogue and deepening our cooperation with WA’s elected representatives. Hopefully, these discussions will culminate into Western Australian legislative support for Armenian-Australian issues of concern.”
