MELBOURNE: The Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee has announced that Dr Themistocles Kritikakos will provide the keynote address at the Melbourne Armenian Genocide Commemoration on Thursday, 23 April, 2026, commencing at 7:00pm at The Drum Theatre (226 Lonsdale St, Dandenong VIC 3175).
Dr Kritikakos, a descendant of genocide survivors, is a historian and writer who holds a PhD in History from the University of Melbourne, where he has served in both academic and professional capacities.
In early 2026, Dr Kritikakos published his latest book, 'Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian Genocide Recognition in Twenty-First Century Australia: Memory, Identity, and Cooperation'. The work explores how Armenian, Greek and Assyrian communities have carried intergenerational trauma while advancing their shared pursuit of recognition within the Australian context.
His keynote address will expand on these themes, examining the enduring impact of the Genocides on diaspora communities despite generations of separation. He will also reflect on the ongoing challenges faced by these communities in their pursuit of justice, recognition, and historical truth.
