SYDNEY: The Armenian Professional Network of Australia (APN-AU) has announced the organisation's second annual ‘Mental Health Awareness Event’, scheduled for Wednesday 8 October, 2025, commencing at 7:00pm at the Hunters Hill Town Hall.
This year's event is titled, "Making Mental Health Advocacy a Priority - an overview of mental health challenges for professionals and the community at large", and will feature a panel of experts in the fields of mental health, professional burn-out, addiction and dependency.
Following the panel discussion, guests will be treated to light refreshments and an opportunity to network with other attendees. For catering purposes, the APN-AU kindly requests attendees register for the event
here.
The panel will be headed by Dr. Artin Jebejian and Dr. Alex Sahagian, Armenian-Australian psychiatrists.
Dr. Artin Jebejian is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) with extensive clinical and academic experience. He holds medical degrees from Mansoura and Cairo Universities and a Diploma of Psychological Medicine from Dublin.
Dr. Jebejian has practiced widely in Sydney, serving as the Visiting Medical Officer at Gordon Private Hospital, Conjoint Lecturer at the University University of New South Wales (UNSW) and as a former examiner for the Australian Medical Council. He runs a private practice and is active in professional organisations including the RANZCP, World Federation of Mental Health, and International Society of Bipolar Disorder.
Dr. Sahagian holds a Bachelor of Medical Science with First Class Honours from The University of Sydney, a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from The University of Notre Dame Australia and a Master of Medicine in Psychiatry from The University of Sydney. He completed his internship and residency at Westmead Hospital and is currently undertaking the Fellowship Program of the RANZCP at Sydney Local Health District.
Dr Kareen Mekertichian, who leads the Armenian Professional Network of Australia’s Medical and Allied Health Professional Forum, commented on the event stating, "This event, which is hosted by the APN, provides a valuable opportunity for a collective focus on mental well-being, tackling stigma and fostering support across the wider Armenian-Australian community.”
“It is important to recognise that mental health problems can affect a broad section of our community in many ways and we must promote a positive culture of seeking help when necessary, providing leadership and advocating for our community," he added.
The APN-AU is an initiative by the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU), with the goal of connecting Armenian professionals across Australia, uniting them in discussion events and mixers.
